Paternity of Gentile Woman

Question

I need help. I don’t know what to do. A while back, I got drunk at a party and impregnated a gentile woman. I didn’t realize what I was doing. Now she is having my baby and refuses to get an abortion. I am scared now. What should I do about this?

  1. While I understand why you feel so scared and pressured, I am not sure that I understand what, exactly, you are asking. If you have no doubts whatsoever that you are the father of the child, you need to take responsibility for what you have done. That does not mean that you should marry her, Chas v’Shalom. Rather, it means that you need to accept on yourself your part for any financial and legal liabilities.

  2. Should I have a relationship with this child at all? Should I share custody with the child’s mother if I can legally do so?

  3. That is not really a question that I feel that I can answer. Such a question needs to be asked to a scholar of note who is an expert in Jewish Law. Personally, I would suggest that you ask a local authority to help you navigate your way through this complicated and fraught period.
