Head Covering

Question

I am a longtime happily married woman, but I’ve only become observant in the last few years. I’ve been getting severe headaches for several weeks. I went to the doctor who said whatever I do I should not wear any type of hat or hair covering. He thinks covering my hair is causing this and by doing so, I could develop a deadly condition. I have tried all types of hair coverings and none make it any better. What do you think should I do?

  1. If covering your hair is truly a potentially life-threatening issue then you would be exempt from covering your hair as saving life is of paramount importance. However, in order to reach that Halachic conclusion you need to consult with a recognized expert in Jewish Law who would also need to be in touch with the specialist who you have been consulting so that the expert can understand the various medical issues and then make a definitive ruling.

If you are not familiar with a recognized expert in Jewish Law and you would like me to try and find someone for you to approach, please let me know where you live and I will do my best to find someone who will be able to help you.
