Capitalizing Off Non-Jewish Holidays

Question

The local kosher bakery, which is owned by Orthodox Jews and is under rabbinical supervision and caters mainly to the Jewish community, sells cookies and pastries with the themes and images of non-Jewish holidays.

How is this permitted?

  1. Good question! And one that I am not sure I can answer. Personally, I would suggest that you contact the Kashrut supervising body and ask them.

  2. I did ask them. They just said it’s permitted but gave no explanation why.

  3. I think that you are certainly within your rights to ask them to explain why they feel that it is acceptable.
