  1. Good question! What exactly is Zion and who are the “Daughters of Zion”? When the word Zion is first found in Tanach, see the Book of Samuel 2 chapter 5 and the book of Kings 1 chapter eight, Zion is a geographic location also called the “City of David”.  If so, what does the phrase “daughters of Zion” mean? The commentaries explain that the “daughters of Zion” is a phrase the denotes God’s great love – both for the His Chosen Nation and also for the Holy City of Jerusalem. Interestingly enough in Megillat Eicha (Lamentations) the Jewish People are referred to as the “sons of Zion”, see Eicha 4:2.
