Using Depilatory Cream

From the answer to my previous question it appears mourners can’t use depilatory cream on the it is shaving. My question is if non mourners can’t shave their Peyot why can they use the cream, what’s the difference betwwwn the two

  1. I apologize but I am not sure that I understand what you are asking when you mention “peyot.” In general, the Torah forbids shaving with a razor. The use of depilatory cream is permitted for non-mourners because it is not a razor. Electric shavers are a little complicated, as some of them are regarded as being too similar to a razor to be permitted to use. There are models that are permitted for use and there is probably a comprehensive online list of which electric shavers are Halachically permissible. And, if you use the word peyot to mean the sideburns near the temple – they are not allowed to be removed in any fashion – razor or scissors or even cream.
