Spray Tanning in Halacha

Question

Does the Torah’s prohibition against tattoos apply to spray tanning? Has any posek ever ruled on a question like this?

  1. Spray tanning and tattooing are not Halachically similar to each other. Tattooing is inserting color into the pores of the skin so that it sits there permanently. Skin tanning is process that sprays a chemical on the skin that makes a chemical reaction with the skin and colors it for a brief period of time (normally around a week depending on the strength of the color requested) and, Halachcially, it is not considered to be tattooing.
