Shechita in Outer Space

Question

Since the Passuk in the Torah commanding shechita (Deuteronomy 12:21) mentions “your settlements” does this mean according to Halacha shechita in outer space is invalid? Or Is my hypothesis completely basis?

  1. The verse is referring to the novel idea that meat can be slaughtered outside of the Temple. This means that the words “in your gates” are teaching that the Torah gives permission for meat to be slaughtered and eaten for non-sacrificial uses.

In any event, even according to your theory, if there are Jews living in outer space in the future, that would be their place of domicile and it would be considered to be “in your gates” and valid.
