Moving Deceased After Burial

Question

My wife past away and wanted to be buried close by so we can visit the gravesite. There is a family plot on the opposite coast where I’d like to be put to rest when my time comes. She agreed to follow me there at that time. Is it allowed to move after you’ve been placed to rest?

  1. I am so terribly, terribly sorry to hear of your loss. Please accept my condolences on the passing of your wife. May Hashem comfort you and your entire family among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

As a rule it is recommended not to move a person once they have been buried. However, there are a few exceptions, one of which is moving a person to family burial plot. Therefore, I feel that it is correct to do as your wife asked and to bury her close to home for now, and, when the time comes, to move her to the family plot.
