Bris: Only During the Day

Question

A Bris is traditionally conducted during daylight,
following the Morning Prayer service.
If this is not possible, it can be done any time during the day.

However, a Bris can NEVER be done at night,
which according to the Jewish calendar, begins at sunset.
Why can a bris not be done at night?

  1. The Talmud explains that because the command to perform a Bris stresses that it must be done on the eighth DAY. Our Sages understand that that means that a Bris can only be done during the daytime hours and it cannot be done at night. The explanation of our Sages is codified in Jewish Law and it is accepted by all opinions.
