Kriah for Secondary Clothing

Can Jews do kriah with secondary clothing like hats, ties, gloves etc.

  1. The Halachos of Kriah teach that the place that the Kriah is done is over the heart. The reason given is to show that the mourner is brokenhearted. That is why the tear is only made on the mourner’s main clothing. Not only is there no Halachic reason to tear “secondary” clothing, it might actually be considered to be prohibited, either because of the transgression of excessive signs of mourning or because of Ba’al Tashchis – wasting things.
