Chol Hamoed: Attending Wedding

Question

My cousin is culturally Jewish but not observant. He is getting married to a Jewish woman on Chol Hamoed Passover. I have learned that weddings are not supposed to be held on Chol Hamoed. I already said I was coming before I realized the date. Is attending such a wedding permitted?

    As you point out, our Sages forbid marrying on Chol HaMoed. In theory, this means that you should not attend the wedding. If, however, the couple is having a wedding ceremony that otherwise follows the Halacha, and your not attending will be the cause of ill feeling, I would suggest that you speak with a local authority (I live in Israel) to see if it might be possible to be lenient in this particular situation.
