Understanding Isaiah

Question

Isaiah 66:22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before ME, saith Hashem, so shall your seed and your name remain.

Question: What marvelous “pala” work will Hashem do to bring to fruition the new heavens and the new earth? Could the surpassing work be Isaiah 66:16 which says: For by “fire” and by His “sword” shall Hashem plead with all “flesh”: and the “slain” of Hashem shall be many?

Is this slaughter the work which will bring forth the new heavens and the new earth? Will wickedness forever be abolished under these new heavens? Will righteousness ever reign in the new earth?

I have yet other questions pertaining to Isaiah 66:24. And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcasses of the men that have transgressed against ME: for their “worm” shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.

Where is this place? What does the term “worm” mean? Is this place eternal? Why does Hashem allow these to be seen?

  1. Personally, I would suggest that you acquire the Milstein edition of the Book of Isaiah published by ArtScroll (www.artscroll.com). It has a contemporary translation and excellent commentaries and footnotes.
