Why do Jews wear tefilin?

  1. The Torah states, Exodus 13:16 and Deuteronomy 6:8: “And it shall be as sign upon your arm, and an ornament between your eyes…” Tefillin are black leather boxes that contain four paragraphs from the Torah written on parchment.
