Rappaport Family Lineage

Question

According to Baal Shem Tov, the Rappaport family lineage is truly traced back to the priestly class, Kohanem, all the way to Ezra and eventually to the first Temple.

Is there any truth to this??????

    Yes, there is plenty of truth to it! I don’t know about the Ba’al Shem Tov, but there is documented evidence that the Vilna Gaon, being the oldest child, was always concerned that he had not been redeemed properly and continuously re-redeemed himself until he finally met a Rappaport who had a family tree that went straight back to the very first Kohen – Aharon haKohen.

    However, having said that, Rappaport is a relatively common name nowadays and not all Rappaports can trace their roots back.
