Question
Dear Rabbi: Thank you for answering my previous question. :-D In the first century, was it required and expected of a Rabbi that he be married? Were there any conditions under which it would have been Lawful for a Rabbi to be unmarried? What would the reaction have been if an itinerant Rabbi, or any Rabbi at all, were not married? G-d bless all of you for this wonderful service! Patricia

Question
Greetings Rabbi: Would a first century Rabbi have worked at a "secular" job to support himself, or would he more likely have been supported by his local synagogue? Thank you. Sincerely, Magus

Question
Dear Rabbi Was there such a thing as an "honorary Rabbi" in the first century or thereabouts? I have been told this on several occasions and have no idea if it's factual. G-d bless, Patricia

Question
For personal reasons, I have held back on having my son bar mitzvahed. He is now 15. He recently went out of state to a cousin's bat mitzvah. He was given the honor of doing an aliyah and told me that in the process he received an "honorary bar mitzvah." He says that he was blessed by the rabbi and give a talit. What exactly is an "honorary bar mitzvah" and does it have any true significance? Since my son did not read a Torah portion or Haftorah, I do not see how this could be a legitimate ceremony. To say that I am livid over having my parental authority undermined is an undertatement.

Question
Okay, so I am currently pursueing Christianity, but I figured I'd ask rabbis about this as I really respect what I've seen of the Jewish perspective on things, especially regarding the way they interpret the scriptures. Most of the answers Christians have given me regarding this are based on the Old Testement anyway, so I'm very interested in your perspective. My fiance and I went to see a huge statue that is touring the world indefinitely, and we both felt an incredible presence there; we decided at that moment to 'marry our souls' there...we both felt as if G-d was our only officiator and witness. It was powerful for both of us, and it is actually that experience that made me pursue Christianity and G-d in general, as it is my immense love for my fiance that helped me understand Divine Love. I understand that according to many, premarital sex is wrong. My question is, then, are we considered married in the eyes of G-d, or do we need it to be 'official' for G-d to recognize it?
