Judges 14:18

Question

“Before sunset on the seventh day the men of the town said to him,

‘What is sweeter than honey?
What is stronger than a lion?’

Samson said to them,

‘If you had not plowed with my heifer,
you would not have solved my riddle.'” (Judges, chapter 14, verse 18)

I think that this verse has some inner meanings. Please help me to understand.

  1. The Rabbis teach that Samson was testing them with a riddle that they had no way of answering because it was based on something that had happened to him personally and they could not have known what it was. It was clear to Samson that their knowing the answer meant that they had asked his wife to give the answer to them, as she was the only person to whom Samson had told what had happened to him.
