Question

I will be davening Shachrit in Sydney Australia on Wednesday 21 December before flying to the United States of America

I arrive in America at 06:00 am on Wednesday 21 December (same day as I leave Australia)

Do I need to daven Shachrit again in America ?

  1. There is a disagreement among the Poskei haDor as to what is the correct thing to do. Rav Moshe Feinstein and Rav Ovadiah Yosef (among several other giants) rule that once you have davened for that day, you do not have to repeat your Tefillih, even though in your new location it is now a new day and they are davening the same Tefillah that you already davened.

Rav Elayshiv and Rav Yaakov Keminetzky disagree. They rule that the person is obligated to daven the same Tefillah again because his geographic location defines what his Halachic obligation is.

Subsequently, if there is a practical dimension to your question, I would recommend that you ask a local Posek who is an expert in these Halachos.
