1 Samuel 19:13 – “Mannequins”

Considering the mitzvot against idol worship, how is it that King David had an idol in his house in 1 Sam 19:13?

  1. The mannequins were not idols. I do not now exactly what form they took but presumably they were created in such a way that they did not contravene the prohibition against making a graven image. The commentaries explain that it was normal in those days for women to have mannequins made in the likeness of their husbands to remind them of their husbands when they were away.
