Question
Hi Rabbi, Why was the Torah given to us on Shavuot and not right after leaving Egypt or on some other day of the year? By the way, I really appreciate your answers and the Gateways’ Ask the Rabbi service.

Question
Dear Rabbi, I recently took a college class to better understand my Jewish heritage. Now my question for you is this: Why is the “mitzvah system” of the 613 commandments considered so important? The concept of a “mitzvah system” seems to have a very special place in Judaism. Why, Rabbi? Thanks!

Question
Is there any special mitzvah to be fulfilled on Shavuot like there are on other Jewish Festivals, such as eating matzah on Passover?

Question
Hi Rabbi, I’m Jewish but never had any formal Jewish education. I want to start studying but also need to work, so I’m wondering if Torah study is meant for someone like me or only for fulltime scholars. Thanks!

Question
OS 237 This is my first time experiencing Shavuot in a yeshiva environment. I'm told that everybody stays up all night studying Torah, which sounds fun but at the same time I'm a little wary of doing so. In school I once had a paper due the next day which I stayed up the entire night writing; in the morning my brain felt like fried tofu and I could hardly function. How important is it to stay up all night on Shavuot and why; or perhaps it's more important to get a good night's sleep?
