Question
Dear Rabbi, I would like to know the Halacha about the Jewish marriage ring. I know that it cannot have any stones in it, but is it permitted to have words engraved in it like, "Ani Le'Dodi Ve'Dodi Li'. I have seen such rings for sale on sale on Jewish Websites, but are they kosher as a woman's wedding band?

Question
Dear Rabbi Moshe Newman: Thank you good sir for your extremely helpful answers. You have no idea what a relief it is to be able to get information about first century Judaism directly from a Rabbi, rather than sifting through many pages of conflicting information. May I be so bold as to make several further inquiries? How young did boys begin their studies for the Rabbinate in the first century? How long did it last? Did a first century Rabbi wear any distinctive garb or anything else that would have identified him as a Rabbi? G-d bless you sir. Rev. Nathaniel J. Merritt

Question
Dear Rabbi: Thank you for answering my previous question. :-D In the first century, was it required and expected of a Rabbi that he be married? Were there any conditions under which it would have been Lawful for a Rabbi to be unmarried? What would the reaction have been if an itinerant Rabbi, or any Rabbi at all, were not married? G-d bless all of you for this wonderful service! Patricia
