Why do we blow the shofar during the High Holidays?

i have a close friend who doesnt belive in god. although he is jewish and now 25 he has never had a bar mizvah and nor has he placed tefilin on. yom kippur is on its way and he refuses to observe it i wish i had something to help change his mind about everything. please help me. Lauren

Do I light a memorial candle for my brother (who has a son and daughter) on Rosh Hashana/Yom Kippur/anniversary of his death?

What is the Halacha in regards of body part donation after death? I know it is a gread mitzvah to save another life, but is there any restriction about donating ones body and organs to save other lives? thanks,
