Going Down to Mitzrayim

Question

BSD. I think there is a Midrash that teaches us that the 70 souls going into Mitzrayim did not include the wives of the sons of Yaakov Avinu. Does anyone know anything about this? Does the count include the wives?

Can someone please tell me who are counted in the 70 souls? Thanks

  1. It is not a Midrash. The Torah, itself, lists the names of the seventy people who went down to Mitzrayim. One person represents each family, which is why spouses are not mentioned. The list of those who are counted is found in Bereshis 46:27.
