Question
What does Judaism say about suicide in terms when a Jew is given the choice of death or conversion to Christianity? I believe that according to the Torah, there are 3 instances where suicide is acceptable as an alternative. 1. Unlawful sexual contact 2. Someone is threatening that they will kill you if you don't kill this person (you should kill yourself rather than kill that person) and 3. Idol worship. Being forced to convert to a monotheistic religion such as Christianity or Islam is not the same as idol worship in my eyes. But according to Torah, what are the regulations of forced conversion? Thank you. My boyfriend's brother studied at a yeshiva for 9 months and believes that if someone forces you to convert, you should kill yourself. I don't believe him and think that he misconstrued what he was taught at yashiva in Jerusalem. I would greatly appreciate the clarification.

Question
I was friendly with a married orthodox couple. They seperated and the wife requested and received from the conservative movement a hakpaat nissuin, basically in English ,an annullment. She never approached a Orthodox beit din to file for a ghet. There is no question as to her first marriage being halachically valid. And she definetly has not received an orthodox ghet from her husband, although eventually one will be forthcoming. Soon after she recived the Conservative annulment she married a man she had been dating and perhaps living with in a Jewish ceremony of some sort . Althouogh that shoul dbe irrelevant because she does not have a ghet. She is living in another city in a orthodox life and when I visit that city I presume I will be invited for a meal. The question is in so much as she is living in a ongoing adultrous relationship ,may I trust her kashrut ?

Question
I really appreciate this site... just to demonstrate that, I have another question... Where do the teachings of kosher utensils and establishments (respectively) find their origin (i.e., are they taken from the Torah, the Oral Traditions, etc.)? Thank you very much.
