Same Name for Child

Question

A mother gave her daughter the same name as herself. Is that a problem? Thanks

  1. It is not a problem, per se. First of all, among the Sephardic Jews the custom is to name children after living relatives. Aside from that, even if the family is Ashkenazic and the child (or the mother) has more than one name and the second name is different – it is not a problem.
