In Zechariah 7:5 the people fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month for seventy years. Is there a reason these specific months were chosen to fast?

    The commentaries explain that the fifth month is a reference to the fast of the Ninth of the month Av, which commemorates the destruction of the Temple(s). The seventh month is a reference to the Fast of Gedaliah, which is on the third day of the month of Tishrei.
