The Letter Chet

Question

My question has to do with the shape, use and meaning of the letters in the alphabet, specifically the letter he or alternately heith. Somewhere I picked up that originally the letter had to do with destruction, but later evolved into something like salvation. In contemplating Passover the instructions regarding placing the blood on the lentil and posts seems to create a he/heith whereby the destroyer would passover the the house whereby the inhabitants were saved. Also the use over the letters used in the name of the Eternal One might indicate to the angel of death that the inhabitants of that house were marked as belonging to Him. And…the letters included in the name of Eve and things regarding of life relate back to the Creator of all life.

As some say, ‘Coincidence is not a kosher word ‘

Just wondering and contemplating on things. Proverbs 25:2

Thank for your insight

  1. The letter chet actually has different meanings – some of which are almost contradictory! For example, the letter chet is associated with “chen – grace”, “chaim – life”, and “chet – sin”.

I have also seen in the past a book called The Wisdom of the Hebrew Alphabet, which might be interesting.
