Speech on Shabbos

Question

Shalom aleichem Rabbi Lauffer. Thank you for answering my last question. On Shabbos, if someone asks you who you are going to vote for for President, are you allowed to say? Or would this be forbidden because it is talking about doing something after Shabbos which you are not allowed to do on Shabbos? Thanks a lot.

  1. Personally, I would say that it is forbidden to ask the question on Shabbos, and just as forbidden to answer it. Less because it is an action that is done on a weekday, but more because the Halacha is that one’s speech should be different on Shabbos than during the week. I think that who to vote for is a perfect example of what not to talk about on Shabbos!
