Shoot and Twig: Isaiah 11:1

Question

Hi, in Isaiah 11:1 we read: “But a shoot shall grow out of the stump of Jesse, A twig shall sprout from his stock.” What are the Jewish commentaries about (shoot) and (twig)?

    The commentaries explain that Isaiah had already assured King Chizkiyahu that the Nation of Israel will never be annihilated. That there would always remain a remnant of the Jewish People. Now he is promising that the Ten Tribes who had been exiled and seemingly lost to the Jewish People, would one day return when the Messiah reveals his identity to the world.
