Shloshes Yamei Hagbalah

Question

If Jewish men were commanded not to go near a woman in advance of the giving of the Torah, why didn’t it become a commandment for all future generations for men to repeat this practice annually and to refrain from going near a woman in the days leading up to Shavuos in order to reach a higher spiritual realm?

  1. The reason is that it was a specific enactment for a specific time so that there would be no spiritual impurity during Har Sinai. After the Giving of the Torah, there is no longer as reason for such a decree and that is why it was never codified in Halacha.

However, interestingly enough, Rabbi Chaim Yair Bachrach, the author of the Chavos Yair, in his work Mekor Chaim, writes that there are those who are careful not to have relations during the three days leading up to Shavuos.
