Second Shehakol Brachah

Question

Hi again Rabbi

I have another question if I may ask you.

I was drinking coffee on which I made a shehakol brocha. Before I finished drinking, I got some cheese from the fridge to eat.

Do I need to say a 2nd shehakol seeing that I had already said one on the coffee?

Thank you

Regards

Seth

  1. The Shehakol that you made over the coffee covers the other Shehakols that you might decide to eat or drink until you have made an After-Brachah for the coffee.

  2. Oops !
I said another brocha on the cheese – I hope the punishment for that isnt too severe 😑

On that topic, does the shehakol on the coffee cover the cheese as well ?

    There’s so much I don’t know 😒

  3. Hashem does not hold you accountable for any “sins” that you did that you were unaware of. That means that nothing will happen because you made another Brocha on the cheese.

Yes, the Shehakol covers the cheese and, if it would have been the other way around and you made a Shehakol over the cheese first, it would cover the coffee and you would need to make another Brocha.

  4. I have so many questions, how am I ever go to learn all 613 commandments 😔

I need to ask this though and it kind of follows on from the above question re a 2nd shehakol brocha.

I had in front of me a cracker & cream cheese to spread on the cracker. I read that if 2 foods are joined, you say the brocha on the more important food & that covers the other food.
So here I was going to say mezonot on the cracker & that would cover the cream cheese.
Here’s my question: does the cream cheese have to already be smeared on the cracker before the mezonot is said (& I’d take a bite of the cracker before smearing) , OR can it be smeared after the mezonot?

Its all so involved, probably better if I just stop eating altogether 🤐

  5. Whew, no punishment is good!

Apologies, I erroneously re asked if the coffee shehakol cover the cheese, to which you had already answered.
I meant, does the borei nefashot on the coffee cover the borei nefashot on the cheese?
