Removing a Fruit Tree

Question

As a gardener I need to know if an elderberry tree can be cut down as it is riddled with black fly, drops black fly on all below so nothing grows and is spreading and eating into an apple tree growing right next to it? Thank you. Shabbat Shalom and Chag Sameach

  1. In theory, it is permitted to uproot a fruit-tree that is diseased and causing damage to the immediate environment. However, due to the fact that some authorities are stringent the best thing to do is to have a non-Jew uproot the tree and remove it.
