Passover: 14th and 15th?

Question

Hi,

After the Israelites put the blood of the lamb on their doorpost, can you tell me which night the actual Passover event happened?
Was it the night of the 14th or the night of the 15th of aviv? If it was the 15th, why is the 14th called Passover?

Answers

  1. The Festival of Passover begins on the fifteenth of Nissan. Jewish “days” actually begin at night so the Seder is held on the night before the day of the fifteenth. God commanded the Jewish People to bring the Paschal Lamb on the afternoon of the fourteenth of Nissan in order that it could be eaten on the night of the fifteenth.
