Never Marrying by Personal Choice

Is it permitted for a Jewish person who has no desire to ever be married or have a romantic partner and would not be happy in a relationship to remain single by choice their entire life?

  1. What a fascinating question! Marriage within Judaism is something that extremely important. The continuity of the Jewish Nation rests upon it and marrying is considered to be the fulfillment of a commandment. However, having said that, if a person has no desire whatsoever to be married and they have no physical desires to be with another person then they should not be coerced into marrying for the wrong reasons and living in an unhappy marriage.
