Jeremiah 30:9 (two questions)

Question

shalom aleichem dear rabbi

1) in Targum Jonathan on Jeremiah 30:9 we read:

is this translation correct?

“They shall worship before the Lord their God, and they shall hearken to MESSIAH, the Son Of David , their King, whom I will raise up unto them.”

2) how should we understand the Radak’s (Rabbi David Kimchi) commentary translation on Jeremiah 30:9 ?

Answers

  1. 1) Yes, that is a correct translation.

    2) The Radak is one of the classic commentaries on the Prophets and it is found in all standard Hebrew versions of Jeremiah. I am not familiar with an English translation of the Radak. In any case, the Radak is saying that it is possible that the verse is referring to King David, himself, who will arise at the Resurrection of the Dead; or it could be referring to the Messiah, who will be called David.
