Hebrew Pronunciation
Good day Rabbi,
Can you help me understand what is the correct way to pronounce the 6th letter of the Hebrew alphabet the Vav ? Some people say it is a ” wa” sound, like water, and others say it is a Vah sound. I think in ancient Hebrew it was a ” wa” ? if so why is it now a “vah” sound?
for example: David can either be pronounced Da Weed or Da Veed. Which is correct please?
Thank you for your time
Rick

The correct pronunciation for the letter ‘vav’ is as it is written in English – va. That means that David is pronounced David and not Dawid.
