Hebrew and Torah Study

Question

Hi Rabbi, is it necessary to become an expert in Hebrew grammar and to learn communicative Hebrew in order to study the Torah?

Answers

  1. No, it is not an imperative, but it certainly makes things much easier. It is not essential since there are a myriad of excellent texts and books about the Torah in English and many other languages. But knowing Hebrew can help add an extra dimension of understanding of the Torah that would be lacking without knowledge of the language of the Torah.
