Gechazi’s Children Punished With Leprosy (2 Kings 5:27)

Question

Shalom Rabbi

In 2 Kings 5:27, why was the curse of leprosy placed upon the seed (children) of Gechazi? Doesn’t Hashem judge each person for their own transgressions? Isn’t that what would be equitable and just?

  1. The Rabbis teach that Gechazi’s children were accomplices to his deception, which is why they were punished. This means that the punishment was only for those who were with him at the time. Any children born afterward were not included in the punishment.
