Final Redemption

Question

Dear Rabbi Laufer,

Do we have קבלה from the Sages that the final redemption will be similar to יציאת מצרים ? Does this include Rashi’s 2nd פרוש of the word “חֲמֻשִׁ֛ים” ?

  1. I am not sure if there is an absolute correlation between Yetzias Mitzrayim and the Final Redemption however the Sages do teach that Yetzias Mitzrayim is the proof that there will be a Final Redemption. Having said that there is a concept of Ma’aseh Avos Siman L’Banim (although there is a Machlokes haRishonim as to whether it is referring up to the death of Ya’akov Avinu or of it includes Sefer Shemos as well) – if it is applicable that means that the idea of masses of Jews not being found worthy to come to the Land of Israel would be applicable.

The Meshech Chochma explains that the understanding of this Midrash is that four fifths of the Jewish People were so mired in the idol worship of Egypt that they were not worthy of being redeemed, however, G-d in His infinite kindness, only killed those Jews that did not want leave Egypt.
