Celebrating the Secular New Year

Do Jews celebrate the January 1st New Year in USA?

  1. I cannot answer for what Jews in the USA do, or do not do, with regards to January the 1st. All I can write is what I tell all my students – that the change over of the secular year has its roots in the birth of Jesus. Subsequently, Jews should not celebrate it as it is lending credence to something that we believe has no theological validity.
