Can you say “God”?

Question

In Shulchan Aruch, the Alter Rebbe says that you may not say Hashem’s names in any language, and then gives an example of “God” in Yiddish, and “God” in Russian/Ukranian, and mentions how you can’t say the word for it, and then he goes on to say that you cant say Hashem’s name in any other language at all.

So I was wondering: What the conditions/limits are to that, and if it makes a difference if you are being mekarev someone, etc.

Thanks!

  1. The subject of not using Hashem’s Names is only when there is no reason to do so. So, for example, it is permissible for a teacher to use Hashem’s Name when teaching children how to says blessing or prayers. It is also permissible to use to Hashem’s Name (at least in other languages, as you mention) when talking to someone about Judaism and what Judaism believes in.
