Blessings of the Amidah

Question

What is the reason for the exact order of the blessings in the Amidah? Why is it that, for example, Slach Lanu is #6 or the blessing for rain is #9 or Modim is #17? Why is it that no other blessings were put in any other position? Was it made this way at random, or for a specific reason?

    Although your question is an excellent one and extremely apt, it is really beyond the scope of this kind of forum as it is very involved and requires an enormous amount of time to answer. Personally, I would suggest that you obtain a copy of the book Shemoneh Esrei by Rabbi Avrohom Chaim Feuer published by ArtScroll. It is a brilliantly clear commentary on the Amidah with explanations as to why each blessing is included and why it appears where it does.
