Bamidbar 11:1 – Murmurers

Question

“And the people were as murmurers, speaking evil in the ears of the LORD; and when the LORD heard it, His anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and devoured in the uttermost part of the camp.” (Bamidbar 11:1)

What are they say and why did Hashem burnt them?

  1. The commentaries explain that after the elevated experience of receiving the Torah at Sinai the Jewish Nation sank to a new level of spiritual sloth, and the complaints were a “disguise” to cover up their desire to go back to their old way of life and to the corruption of Egyptian life.
