Another Brocha on Tzitzit
Hi
Im sending this all the way from Johannesburg, South Africa.
So Im trying to start wearing tzitzit the whole day. I’m not there yet. What I’ve done so far is to commit myself to at least put tzitzit on when I daven. I daven at home. When I put tzitzit on for Shacharit, I say the brocha. I usually daven shacharit between 6.30am – 8am. After shacharit, I take the tzitzit off. At Mincha time, between 2.30pm – 5pm, I put the tzitzit back on. Do I have to say another brocha on the tzitzit? I read that a lot of Jewish laws involve ones intentions. So when I say the brocha on the tzitzit for Shacharit, I do have in mind that I’ll be putting them on again later that day. I don’t know if that helps anything. I also know the 3rd of the 10 Commandments is not to take the Lords Name in vain. To avoid committing this sin, I haven’t up to now been saying a second tzitzit brocha at Mincha. If I did say it and it wasn’t necessary, I’d be saying G-ds Name in vain. I don’t know which sin is worse, saying G-ds Name in vain, or not saying a brocha when I was supposed to. That’s the end of my question. Thank you so much for your time in giving this your attention. It is much appreciated. Regards, Seth

Firstly, please accept my Brochah that you continue to grow in Torah knowledge and observance for many more years to come!
The correct thing to do is to make a new Brochah when you put your Tzitzis on again at Mincha. It is true that intent is very important and it is possible to have intent for one Mitzvah that has a break in it. However, in order for the intent to apply, it needs your not taking your mind off of the fact that you will be putting your Tzitzis back on again much later on. Because that is unlikely, it means that you should make a second Brochah over your Tzitzis.

Hi Rabbi
Thank you for your answer, it’s appreciated!
It’s a good feeling knowing what to do.
Today will be my first day saying a brocha on tzitzit at mincha.
Kind regards
Seth
Fantastic! May you always recite your Brochos with Kavanah!

Morning Rabbi
I hope it’s ok 👍🏼 that I’m asking so many questions.
Following on the above question re a 2nd brocha on tzitzit :
So in Shacharis this morning, as I was scooping up my tzitzit before Shema, I realised I never said a brocha on them this morning when I put them on. I read you can’t interrupt before & during the Shema, and before & during the Shemonah Esrei, so I waited until after Shemonah Esrei & said the tzitzit brocha then.
I hope 🙏 I did the right thing?
Is there a punishment if I did the wrong thing?
Regards
Seth
What you did was great!
