Aliyah Using Great Grandfather’s Name

Question

Bsd

Hi, is it permisable to get called for an aliyah using the name of your great grandfather?

The Rema in Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim 139:3 allows getting called with your grandparent name. What if he’s not Jewish but your great grandfather was?

Thanks.

  1. If the great grandfather is the last Jewish ancestor, it is permissible, in theory, to use his name. However, in such situations, I would suggest that the person speak with the Rabbi of the Synagogue that he supposed to be getting an Aliyah in, just to confirm with him that he has no objections.
