A Boiled Ant – Kashrut

Question

My daughter was pouring boiled water from an electric kettle into a glass cup and a dead ant came out. How do we kasher the kettle and the cup?

  1. Because there was just one ant it was “botul b’shishim” – negated by sixty times the amount of water that was in the kettle – both the kettle and the glass are fine and they do not have to be Kashered. I appreciate that this is completely superfluous but the ant should be thrown away!

  2. Thank you for the swift reply.  One of our young ones, after hearing me read your reply asked, “Does the uncle have to go too?”  Hope you had a great Shabbos.  Thanks again.
