Parking in a Handicapped Space

Question

If one who does not have a permit parks in a handicapped space, they are violating civil law and risk a fine. What Torah laws are being broken by someone who does this?

  1. It is absolutely forbidden to park in a disabled space. What prohibitions are involved? If they are taking away a space form a fellow Jew, they are violating the Mitzvah of loving one’s fellow like oneself. There is also a potential prohibition of Chillul Hashem if an obviously Jewish person parks in a disabled spot if they are not allowed to. There is also an additional problem of violating the laws of the country – what is known as “Dina d’Malchuta Dina.”
