Why are most holidays celebrated for 8, not 7, days? My mother taught us it was because in the diaspora the calendar might have gotten a little "off', so observant Jews celebrate for 8 days to make sure not to miss the proper date. Every Shabbos we hear the words yasher koach being said to the person who gets an aliyah..., for which the reply is Baruch tihiyeh. In actuality the words yasher koach are usually compressed into another word, schyuch (…not sure of the spelling). How exactly would this word be spelled and where did it come from? Yasher koach! & Freilichen Pesach! -Michoel
