Mitzvat Yishuv Eretz Yisarel
Question
Dear Rabbi, Hi, I have a question regarding the mitzvah of living in Israel. While I don't think Rabbis dispute the fact that living in Israel is indeed a mitzvah I know that most Rabbis here in the U.S. don't exactly push the issue of moving there and I'm confused as to why not. Shouldn't we view the fact that Israel is in our hands today and has been since 1948, as a miracle and the beginning of the prophecy that G-D will return us to our land or does this apply only after Mashiach has already come. This question is of paramount importance to my husband and me because we have been thinking about Aliyah very seriously. We feel that Israel is the place for every Jew to be but are unsure of what to do in light if the current situation going on. We go back and forth between wandering if we should go regardless of the political situation if that is what Hashem wants ultimately. Or is it something that's nice to do but we shouldn't be putting ourselves in a makom sakanah. We are really torn because we want to be there very badly but we want to do the responsible thing for our family. I don't know if anyone can answer us for sure and I'm certain there is more than one opinion on this but we want to do what G-D would want us to do. Thanks for your time, Kiki Schickman
