Answers

  1. There is no prohibition against betting, per se. The Talmud teaches that a person who makes his living from betting is disqualified from giving testimony in a Bet Din (Jewish court of law). A person who bets from time to time, or a person who buys a lottery tickets is an acceptable witness, and any money that he wins from his betting is considered to be perfectly “kosher.”
