Physcial Abuse

Question:

How does someone who is subjected to physical abuse not become an abuser his/her self?

AskTheRabbi.org answered:

Personally, I think that the person who was abused needs to seek out expert professional help to try and deal with the issues. There is no doubt that there is a higher ratio of people who were abused who become abusers than not. Because the experiences are normally very deep-set within the psyche of the person who was abused it requires skill and patience to try and uproot them from the person. I once heard from a psychologist that abuse is its own niche within the field of psychology and a person should always endeavor to try find a professional whose expertise is abuse.
